Weld plastic
like you MIG-weld steel.

WELDMER is a handheld plastic welder that brings professional-grade welding to the repair bench. It runs on standard 3D-printer filament. One hand on the torch, real filler material and a seam that is fused, not glued.

Fused, not stuck on.

A plastic repair holds only when filler and base material become one piece. Most handheld tools can't manage that, so the patch sits on top and lets go under load. WELDMER is built around the weld itself: a permanent bond you cannot break.

Built for the repairs glue can't hold

3D printsBond printed parts permanently into assemblies bigger than the print bed.
Vehicle plasticsRepair cracked bumpers, fairings, mudguards and mounting tabs professionally.
Boats and boardsWeld polyethylene kayaks and canoes that no adhesive bonds to.
Tanks and containersWater tanks, IBCs, crates and bins.
Cases and housingsTool cases, machine covers, appliance parts.
FabricationBuild from sheet plastic, not only fix it.

The same spools your 3D printer uses.

Six spools of 1.75 mm filament: PLA, PETG, ABS, PP, PA and PC
  • Real filler, real seam

Material is added into the joint, not smeared across it. Break a good weld and it breaks beside the seam, not along it.

  • Runs on the filament you already own

Standard 1.75 mm spools — PLA, PETG, ABS and the rest of the shelf. Match the part exactly.

  • One hand on the torch

Trigger-fed, like a MIG gun. Your other hand holds the part, the clamp, or the next piece.

Why the tools you can buy today fall short

Hot-air gun and welding rod

Works well in trained hands. Needs both of them: one for the gun, one pushing rod into the joint at the right angle and pressure.

Soldering-iron and staple kits

Fine for stitching a crack shut. You are mostly smearing the plastic that is already there, not adding controlled filler.

3D-printing pens

They feed filament, but onto cold plastic. The result sticks to the surface rather than fusing with it.

Hand extrusion welders

The industrial answer. They also weigh several kilos and cost thousands, which rules them out for a repair bench.

WELDMER

Fed filler and a fused seam in a one-handed tool that runs on filament. Professional-grade welding at a fraction of the cost of an extrusion welder.

Where the project is

WELDMER is not for sale yet. This is the honest state of things, updated as it changes.

  1. Done

    Control electronics and firmware

Heating, filament feed and temperature control run on the bench.

  2. Now

    First complete prototype

Assembling the full tool into one handheld body.

  3. Next

    Weld tests

Welding and breaking test pieces in common plastics. Subscribers see the results, including the failures.

  4. Then

Questions

Which plastics will it weld?

The process suits thermoplastics — the family most repairs involve, such as PP, PE, ABS, PETG and PLA. We will only list a material once we have welded and broken test pieces in it. Tell us what you need to weld in the form below; it decides what gets tested first.

When can I buy one, and what will it cost?

There is no date yet. Pricing is being set now and depends on what the prototype tests show. The email list hears both before anyone else, and gets the early-bird offer.

How is this different from a 3D-printing pen?

A 3D pen melts filament and lays it onto cold plastic, so it sticks rather than fuses. WELDMER is built so that filler and base material become one piece — a weld, not a coating.
